You’re engaged, and trying to figure out what all the engagement photo hype is. Well, I am here to tell you that the hype is for real, and for good reason. This is one of the most exciting times of your life, your love is on fire right now, and you should document it!
I truly believe that engagement sessions are a vital part of the wedding process, and here are a few reasons why.
We all get to know each other before the wedding day.
Wedding photography is an important investment. First and foremost, I believe the most important reason to have an engagement session is to allow your photographer (hopefully me) to understand you and get to know you better as a couple, before your wedding day. This is where your photographer will be able to see how well you connect in front of a camera, how naturally you fall into poses together, whether showing PDA is nerve-racking for you, and what poses work best. This is also a time for you to experience how your photographer handles posing and lighting. This information is vital to how your photographer does their job, and speaking from experience here, it is much easier to do this before your actual wedding day.
Getting Comfortable in front of the camera.
Practice makes perfect right!! Some people love being in front of the camera, and some don’t. It can be quite nerve racking, and if you can eliminate some of those nerves by practicing before your wedding day, do it!! A little side note, you can also make the most out of your hair/makeup practice runs here by scheduling them on the same day as your engagement session! Win win!
Engagement Photos make great details.
Your wedding celebration is about your love and commitment. Using your engagement photos to help celebrate that love on your wedding day is not only a way to make your wedding day more personal, but it’s convenient. There are so many ways to incorporate these images into your wedding day, whether it’s save the dates, invitations, a guestbook, or something more unique, the options are endless.
Quality time together.
This is one of the most exciting times of your relationship, and it should be!! Your love is fierce and you don’t want to miss documenting it. It’s easy to lose sight of your relationship during the planning process. Hopefully you read last week’s post about keeping the focus on your relationship, but if you didn’t you can check it out here. Engagement sessions are one of those pre-wedding activities that you can enjoy together. Engagement sessions are FUN!! They are full of laughter, love, kissing, dancing, and so much joy. Plan a dinner afterwards and make it a date night, you won’t be disappointed!
